The Lakeside U18 Boys followed up their successful trip to San Francisco with a gold medal finish at the second OVA event of the season.
Having dropped one of their round robin matches early in the day, the boys bounced back with a convincing quarter final victory over the KW Predators setting up a challenging semi-final against Pakmen Gold. The match lived up to the advanced billing and Lakeside prevailed with a 15-13 victory in the third set.
This set up the first meeting of the season with the Ottawa Mavericks in the final. Lakeside took the first set, with the Mavericks winning the second setting up another third set for Gold.
Lakeside held off a late run by the Mavericks and went on to win the tournament with a 15-13 win in the final set.
Keys to victory included excellent serving, great set selection and the boys asserting their size by effective blocking late in the match.
The boys have a well deserved break for exams and preparing for their next OVA tournament on February 18th and travelling to Pennsylvania for another US tournament the week after.
