TO ALL 13/14U TRYOUT PARTICIPANTS:
We are excited to host you at tryouts on September 9, 10 and 17. We have received an overwhelming response for this age group and thus, we want to get out ahead of things before families show up to Oakville Trafalgar Community Center on their tryout date and see a plethora of kids in the gym and are discouraged about prospects of playing with Lakeside for the season.
Please review the following:
- Lakeside plans to run at least four teams at 13/14U this season, however we are prepared to run more should there be a demand for it.
- Our plan for this age group this season is to run training for the month of October (skills, drills and game play) and then assign players to rosters based on current skill level. By taking this approach, we believe that the kids will be much happier and have much more success by playing with kids with similar skills sets as they will learn and grow together. The alternative is to place kids on rosters right from the start which, without knowing much about the players’ skills and personalities, would potentially create imbalances in training and during matches that can be avoided by taking time to assess the kids and place them on rosters with the proper mix of players.
- We understand that the above approach is not for everyone, however we believe this will give coaches and players the best chance for success for the upcoming season.
*** Lakeside will be supplying the 13/14U age group with our top coaching resources for the season as we look to build our future by creating a solid foundation…and this is where it starts.
FURTHER TRYOUT DATE ADDED:
We will be hosting a fourth tryout date for 13/14U on September 20, 2023 from 6:30 – 7:30 pm at Garth Webb Secondary School (one of our home gyms for the season). GWSS is located on Westoak Trails Blvd between Third Line and Bronte Road. We have access to our full, triple gym so there will be a lot of space for the kids to train and play during this final tryout. We will open registration for this tryout shortly. For those that are already registered, you will not have to re-enter all your information. It will be a simplified version of the registration page that will take less than a minute to complete.
ONE FINAL NOTE…
You are going to be bombarded with information, options, and verbal offers for your child to join multiple clubs for the season over the next three weeks. MOST players of this age (and parents as well) are new to the OVA/rep volleyball world so it will be overwhelming for many. Please keep in mind that ANY VERBAL OFFER IS NON-BINDING. Clubs cannot make official offers to players at 13/14U until SEPTEMBER 22, 2023. At that time, you will most likely receive written offers from a number of clubs to which you can then review and make your decision. Do not feel pressured to commit to any club prior to September 22nd.
