Another OVA weekend has come and gone. It was the 15U age category that was in the spotlight this tournament weekend. Here are the results for our five Lakeside teams:
Mambele (Championship): Playing up to 15U, our 14U squad got off to a slow start in pool play. In the afternoon, a quick win in the pre-quarter led to a tough matchup in quarters which saw the team drop two tight sets to HRVC. In the 5/7 match, the girls couldn’t reverse their luck, finishing 7th on the day.
Inkemba (Trillium White): An opportunity to move back up to Championship division eluded the girls on Saturday. Some inconsistent pool play matches still produced top honours going into playoffs. A disastrous showing in the quarters saw the team drop two straight sets leading to a life and death 5/7 match to finish the day. Inkemba were inconceivably pushed to three but managed to pull out a 5th place finish and remain in Trillium White.
Ikul (Trillium Green): A great day in a far-off land (Chatham) for Ikul. A 2-0 sweep in pool play saw the girls continue their winning streak to start the playoffs. A heartbreaking couple of sets in the semis led the girls to a convincing victory against the host team to claim bronze for their efforts. Congrats Ikul!
Cimpaba (Trillium Green): The squad split their morning matches but secures top spot through tiebreakers. In quarters, the team made quick work of their opponents with an easy two set victory to move on to semis. A five point loss in the third set vs. Rapids was followed by an even closer three point third set loss for bronze. Congrats on a solid day of play Cimpaba!
Shotel (Trillium Green): A split of their pool play matches secured a second place finish after morning matches wrapped. In the quarters, Shotel hit the accelerator and breezed past Norfolk in two sets. The semis saw the girls struggle in set one but came agonizingly close in the second, ultimately losing in straight sets. In the bronze, the squad dropped the first set but forced a third, but couldn’t bring it home, losing 13-15 in set three and placing 4th. Great job on a solid day of play!
Next Up: Five teams head down to the Motor City to compete in the Presidents’ Day Challenge. Good luck to all teams participating!
