A full day of 15UG OVA action took place on Saturday November 22nd, with six Lakeside teams in action across southern Ontario, and three of those teams taking home some hardware for their efforts!
15 Nimcha (Trillium Green)
A perfect 10-0 set record for the squad on the day! The girls marched through pool play with relative ease, made quick work of their quarterfinal and semifinal opponents, setting up an all-Lakeside final. With this tournament win, Nimcha are now set to move up to Trillium White and put their skills to the test at the next OVA event set for early in the new year. Congrats on a strong tournament and great result, Nimcha!
15 Silaha (Trillium Green)
In a strikingly similar fashion, Silaha went to work and plowed through their pool play matches (4-0). In the playoff rounds, the girls walked through the quarters but overcame some resistance in the semis. Still, the girls kept their perfect set record intact (8-0) heading into the gold medal match. Facing their sister team (Nimcha), the girls fought hard but could not outlast Nimcha, claiming a silver for their efforts on the day. Congratulations on an exciting day and silver medal!
15 Mambele (Select)
A rocky start to the day saw the team enter the playoffs via the pre-quarter match. The girls split sets in the pre-quarter and ultimately fell in three to Titans Omega. A win over Leaside in the following match set up a 5/7 match with EVP. After dropping the first set, the girls bounced back to force a third where the team battled hard and secured the win, and a 5th place finish to remain in Select Division for the next OVA event. Excellent recovery to wrap the day, Mambele!
15 Upanga (Trillium White)
Entering the day short-handed, the team pushed through pool play (4-0) to take top spot in their pool. In the quarters, the girls fought hard but could not overcome a resilient Pakmen team and fell in straight sets. After a dismantling of E381 in their next match, the girls met an energetic and determined Barrie Elites team in the 5/7 match. After losing a tight first set, the team could not recover and dropped the match in two straight. It’s back to the drawing board for Upanga, with hopes of a better outcome for the next 15U OVA event.
15 Akrafena (Trillium Green)
The squad pushed both pool play matches to three sets, but could not push through the finish line, setting up a pre-quarter for their first match of the afternoon. The girls fought hard but ultimately fell in straight sets which set up a match to stay alive in the tournament with Brant Storm. Another three set match ensued, with Akrafena taking the first set, dropping the second, and unfortunately falling in the third to wrap their first official OVA event of the season. Lots of exciting times ahead for this team!
14 Isihlangu (Trillium Green)
Playing up to 15U for the event, the team swept their AM matches to take top spot in the pool. In the quarters, the girls made quick work of Impact Bold to set up two shots at a medal. After dropping a heart-breaker in three in the semis, the girls regrouped and overwhelmed a Rapids team (11, 12) to take home the bronze. Awesome job, girls…congratulations!
Up Next: 17UG OVA play is back in the spotlight for the second event of the season. Good luck to all teams participating on November 29th!
