It was an action-packed weekend of play for eight Lakeside teams. Let’s dive right in…
16U Walezi (Select) – Winners of their pool and well-positioned for the playoff rounds, Walezi did not disappoint. An easy quarters win was followed by a not so easy three-set semis win. The girls fought hard in the final but dropped the match in three to Stratford. Congrats on the Silver!
16U Akrafena (Trillium Green) – Entering the tournament as the eighth seed, Akrafena swept their morning matches to take first in their pool. A breezy quarter final victory and a three-set thriller in the semis lead to a Gold medal matchup with Rapids. Unfortunately, the gas tank hit empty, with the girls falling in the final, however their best result of the season was secured. Well done team…a well-deserved Silver!
14U Nimcha (Trillium) – A 2-0 record in the morning matches secured top spot in the pool. A tough three-set victory in the quarters set up a semi with Rapids. The girls fought valiantly but fell in two sets. A sweet recovery in the bronze medal match lead to a two-set doozy and a bronze medal for their efforts.
14U Mambele (Premier) – Competing in Premier, the girls fought hard, had a timely win in the playoff rounds and finished the day in 7th. The team is well positions for D1 play for OC’s.
16U Shujaa (Trillium White) – A strong morning and quarter final win unfortunately did not carry through to the semis as the team fell in three sets, followed by a disappointing two-set loss in the bronze. Result: 4th.
14U Silaha (Trillium) – A rough start to the day saw the team fall in their first three matches. Something clicked in the afternoon, though, as the girls fought hard to win the final two matches of the day to claim 5th.
14U Kascara (Trillium) – A mixed morning of play lead to an uneven quarter final. The team lacked consistency and could not limit their errors. Result: 5th.
16U Billao (Trillium Green) – A 1-1 record in pool play was followed by a quarter final two-set loss. In the 5/7 match, the girls could not pull things together, falling in two-sets. Result: 7th.
Next Up: 13U and 15U action takes over for the final weekend before March Break. Good luck teams!!
