The third event of the OVA’s Ontario Championship extravaganza is now complete. Lakeside had three 17U teams competing in Event 3 at RIM Park in Waterloo. Here is a quick summary of their results:
Aquila (D1) were ranked 16th in the province heading into the weekend. Some strong competition was on tap for Day 1, with Aquila forcing three sets with the two top ranked teams in the pool but ultimately dropping all three matches on the day. On Day 2, the team played each opponent tough, winning one in two straight and dropping the other two matches in three. On the final day, the girls hit the accelerator and won three straight, securing a gold medal in D1T4 and finishing 25th overall in the province. Congrats Aquila!
Askari (D2) entered the tournament ranked 14th in D2. The team struggled to get anything going on Day 1, dropping all three matches albeit most sets were tight. On Day 2, the team finished the day in a three-way tie with a 2-1 record in power pools, ultimately placing third in the pool after tie-breakers. Day 3 saw the team start the day with two convincing straight set wins to secure a spot in D2T2 semis. The team ran out of gas unfortunately, placing 4th in D2T2 to wrap the season.
Takoba (D3) started their final event with a 3-0 record and jumped up to the top seed in power pools for Day 2. All three power pool matches were pushed to three sets, with the girls pushing hard but falling short in all three contests. On elimination day, Takoba bounced back from a tough Day 2 and won their pre-quarter match in three. Their luck ran out in the quarters, though, falling in two close sets to the eventual D3T1 winners – Markham Revolution.
