The 2025–26 season has come roaring back with a fury!
This past weekend saw many of our teams participating in OVA action once again. Here is a quick rundown of the results from this weekend’s 15UG action:
Saturday, January 10th
13 Kascara (Trillium): Started their tournament on the front foot, winning their pool with a perfect record. After taking down Brant Fury in three in the quarterfinals, the team couldn’t keep their winning streak alive, falling in the semis to the Grimsby Vipers. However, the girls bounced back in a hurry to sweep the bronze match in two straight sets, producing their first medal of the season. Congrats, Kascara!
13 Onzil (Trillium): Splitting their pool play matches, the team advanced to the quarterfinals in second place. A tough two-set loss to the eventual silver medal winners set the team up for a 5/7 match, which ended in a very competitive three-set loss, missing out on fifth by a minuscule margin of three points.
Sunday, January 11th
15 Mamebele (Select): A choppy start to the first matches of 2026 saw the girls claim third in their pool. A couple of injuries marred the day, but the girls pulled out a fifth-place finish when all was said and done, winning their last two matches in three sets respectively and securing another spot in the Select division for the McGregor Cup in February.
15 Upanga (Trillium White): A mixed morning resulting in a 1–1 record after pool play pitted the team against a strong Pakmen squad, which had beaten the girls in three the last time they met. The tables were turned this time around, as the girls outlasted Pakmen in the quarterfinals and T-West in the semifinals. Those two wins took their toll, as the team fell in two straight sets in the final, but a silver medal for their efforts was well earned. Congrats, Upanga!
15 Nimcha (Trillium White): Like Upanga, Nimcha split their pool matches but strung two wins together when it mattered most, advancing to the finals versus Venom Elite. Venom proved to be too much on the day, but Nimcha played their hearts out to take home the silver and now hope to secure a spot in the Championship division for the next tournament. Well done!
15 Silaha (Trillium White): Hosting in Oakville and following suit with the other teams by splitting their pool matches, the team dropped their quarterfinal match versus Titans but wrapped up their day with a victory over Phoenix to secure a fifth-place finish.
15 Akrafena (Trillium Green): Continuing the theme of the day by going 1–1 in pool play, the girls took on another Grimsby team in the quarterfinals, dismissing them in two straight sets. The team couldn’t conquer their semifinal opponent but rebounded against Smash to take home the bronze. Congrats!!
14 Isihlangu (Trillium Green): Playing up at 15U for this event, the squad won their pool and showed their strength throughout the day, making it to the gold medal match after two convincing playoff round wins. The final went to three sets, and the team came up short, losing a heartbreaker of a third set, 17–19. A great showing to claim silver for their efforts. Excellent job, Isihies!
UP NEXT: The inaugural 18UG OVA New Year’s Cup has three teams participating, while 16UG has another seven squads hitting the court from January 16–18. Good luck to all!
