COVID-19It’s Almost Time: Getting Closer To A Restart

06/05/2020by LVC0

As we close out the first week of June 2020, a number of new developments have taken place.  More businesses are re-opening, pro sports are getting closer to returning, beach and public places are removing barriers and hopefully the extension of the state of emergency in Ontario is the last extension that we see for a long long time.  Things are looking up!

Some News and Updates to pass along from the OVA and from our club:

2020 OVA Beach Volleyball Tour

On June 3, 2020, the OVA officially cancelled their beach volleyball tour through Provincials.  There will be no beach volleyball tour events sanctioned for entire summer of 2020.  This is unfortunate news however, it was not unexpected.  For more information regarding this and other updated from the OVA, please click the OVA logo on the right side of this page to be taken to the OVA website.

Lakeside Volleyball Club Beach Program

Although the OVA beach tour has been officially cancelled, LSVC is still planning to go ahead with a condensed beach training program for Lakeside kids that are looking to get back to training and stay in shape over the summer so that they are ready for the indoor season.  We are working with our facility to ensure that when the program launches we will have essential protocols in place to keep everyone involved safe and protected while we still deal with COVID-19 recovery.  More details will follow, and we will be reaching out to our kids once our plan is ready to be offered out.

Lakeside Indoor Camps in August

It is looking increasingly unlikely that restrictions to indoor activities will be lifted in time for our summer camps set for August.  Early this week we were advised by the town that all indoor recreational rentals booked at HCDSB locations for July and August have been cancelled and, although we are not using HCDSB facilities for our camps, the likelihood of the HDSB taking the same course of action is high.  Should the HDSB officially cancel our August rentals, we will be in touch with all registered participants and fully refund all registration fees.

As an alternative, we are planning to offer small group training sessions in local parks over the months of July and August (relaxed restrictions permitting).  Once plans are confirmed, we will post available time slots and start booking groups.

2020-21 OVA Early Re-Signing Period

As of June 1, 2020, the early re-signing period for OVA players began which allows clubs to offer their current players (players that were on a team with the club during the 2019-20 season) the opportunity to re-sign with the club.  The early re-signing period end on June 15, 2020 at 8 pm.  We look forward to welcoming back a number of our players for the 2020-21 indoor season and we will start training as soon as we can!
