It was an action-packed OVA weekend for ten Lakeside teams, producing three medals and strong performances all around!
Aquila (18U Championship)
A tough round of pool play saw Aquila finish third heading into the playoff rounds. After easily defeating Reach Dynasty in the quarterfinals, the team faced Pakmen Black Adrian for the second time that day in the semifinals but couldn’t hang on in the deciding set.
In the bronze medal match, Aquila quickly dismantled Barrie Elites Black Ice in straight sets to claim a well-earned medal. The team remains in the Championship Division for their next 18U OVA tournament in December.
Askari (18U Trillium White)
After splitting their morning pool play matches, Askari claimed top spot in their pool via tiebreaker, earning a favorable playoff position.
Following a first-round bye, the team powered through three consecutive matches — sweeping Oakville Thunder in the quarterfinals, then dispatching Smash Raiders Crush (20, 6) in the semis.
In the gold medal match, Askari met Milton Edge Platinum for the second time that day and came out on top again, winning in straight sets to capture their first gold medal of the season.
Congratulations, Askari — an outstanding performance! On to Championship Division!
Inkemba (16U Trillium White)
A mixed morning in pool play ended with Inkemba finishing first in their pool. The team battled past Lakeside Mambele (15U) in the quarterfinals, setting up a semifinal against Oakville Thunder Bolts.
In a thrilling first set, Inkemba pulled off a gritty 31-29 win before closing out the match 2-0. In the gold medal final against Humana Wildfire, the girls staged an impressive comeback from 11-18 down to take the first set 25-23, then cruised through the second set 25-16 for a gold medal finish.
This victory moves Inkemba up to the Championship Division for their next 16U event. Fantastic job, girls!
