COVID-19 News and Updates

September 21, 2021

As the Town of Oakville introduces more in-person programming, the health and safety of our staff and community continues to be our top priority.

In compliance with provincial direction, as of September 22, 2021, all individuals aged 12 years or older must provide identification and proof of full COVID-19 vaccination (or medical exemption) to access recreation and culture facilities to:

  • Participate in a drop-in activity, registered program or organized sport
  • Attend a facility rental
  • Watch/supervise a game or activity
  • Use the washrooms or visit customer service

The town’s Proof of Vaccination Procedure for Select Settings exceeds the province’s proof of vaccination regulations by requiring individuals between 12 and 17 years of age participating in organized sports to show proof of vaccination, regardless of their purpose for attending.

Children under 12, who are currently unable to be vaccinated against COVID-19 are exempt. Individuals who are unable to receive the vaccine due to medical exemptions will be permitted entry if they fall under an exemption in the provincial public health orders.

Proof of vaccination requirements

Individuals are considered fully vaccinated after receiving the full series of a COVID-19 vaccine or combination of COVID-19 vaccines approved by the World Health Organization (e.g. two doses of a two-dose vaccine series, or one dose of a single-dose vaccine series, plus 14 days from last shot).

Proof of vaccination will be required at entry, along with photo identification, such as a driver’s licence or health card that has your full name and date of birth. You can print or download a vaccination receipt from the provincial booking portal or call the Provincial Vaccine Booking Line at 1-833-943-3900.  An enhanced digital vaccine receipt is expected from the Province of Ontario as of October 22.

Program refunds

If you are registered in a program and unable to participate due to the vaccination requirements, you can withdraw from your program using your Recreation and Culture account without penalty. Check out the How to withdraw from a program FAQ on our Registration Information page. Alternately, you can call 905-815-2000 from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Facility locations

Proof of vaccination will be required at all town-owned community centres, pools, arenasOakville Centre for the Performing Arts, and the Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate. In addition, access to Town Hall will require proof of vaccination. The Oakville Public Library will introduce a separate vaccination policy for its branches.

Arrival at recreation and culture facilities

You will notice some changes as you arrive at recreation and culture facilities. A screener will be waiting to greet you at the facility entrance. Our online COVID-19 health screening form and screening questions will be accessible on site. We encourage you to continue screening before arriving at the facility. If you are feeling unwell, please stay home.

The screener will ask to see identification. If the individual is:

  • 11 years or under, they will be directed to proceed to customer service to verify health screening.
  • 12 years or over, they will be required to show proof of vaccination and identification (or medical exemption) and then directed to proceed to customer service to verify health screening.

Existing health and safety protocols

Visitors are reminded that in addition to proof of vaccination, existing health and safety protocols remain in place including health screening, contact tracing, physical distancing, face coverings, and proper hygiene to prevent the spread of the virus. Respectful behaviour is also expected towards all visitors, staff and volunteers in accordance with the town’s Rzone Procedure.

Visit the town’s COVID-19 information page for more detailed information about our proof of vaccination requirements. To learn more about Ontario’s proof of vaccination program, please visit the provincial website for Frequently Asked Questions.

We appreciate your continued support to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

Thank you for doing your part.
