Hats off to the 17U Isihlangu for their 3rd place finish in the OVA 17U Select A McGregor Cup competition over the weekend.
The team started the day off with victories over MVC and Georgian Cubs to take a direct route to the quarter finals. In their first playoff match versus Unity, the team started off a bit slow, squeaking out a first set win. In the second set, the team went to work and cruised to a 2-0 match win to move on to the semi-finals.
In the semis, the Isihlangu faced Reach Rising – a team they have now faced three times over the course of the short season thus far, taking both previous matches in three sets. Once again, the team started off slow but stayed with their competitors only to drop the first set 26 – 24. In the second set, it was more of the same in the first half, but the girls hit a hot streak and took a lead at 18-17. Nevertheless, Reach were on their game and finished out the second set by earning every point they got. Reach ended the match two straight, with both set scores finishing at 26 – 24.
In the Bronze match against the Halton Hurricanes 6.0, the Ishies open a big lead but closed out the first set a little closer than expected by a score of 25 – 23. In the second set, the team got the job done with a convincing set win to earn another medal in OVA competition. Congrats to the Isihlangu for a 4-1 record on the day!
