– Hamilton, ON
The 2023-24 OVA season has officially kicked off, and what a way for the season to begin for our 17U Isihlangu!
Entering the season and the first tournament event of the season as the number eight seed overall in the province, the Isihlangu took to the courts on November 4th with intentions of building upon their successes at 16U and securing a birth in Premier Division for the weekend’s playoff rounds on Sunday. A few wobbles on Saturday during pool play saw the team earn a fourth place finish in their pool and earned them a spot in one of two Select Divisions to start playoffs.
As Sunday progressed, the Isihlangu galvanized and grew as a team, knocking off Smash Raiders Bolt, Pakmen Gold Jeff and Reach Rising to secure top honours in Select Division as well as land a spot in Premier for the OVA Challenge Cup in December.
Congratulations to the Isihlangu for their amazing start to the season. Onward and upward we go!
Other Teams in Action This Weekend…
Our 16U Askari and Takoba teams participated in their first OVA tournaments of the season as well. Playing up to 17U and participating in separate Trillium tournaments north and east of the GTA, both teams played hard and had the opportunity to shake some rust off and get to know their fellow teammates during meaningful game action. These tournaments served the teams well as they embark on their 16U season journey at their own age group starting November 11th for the 16U Provincial Cup. Our Askari and Aquila teams will be hosting teams at our home gym, Garth Webb SS while the Takoba hit the road and travel to Woodbridge for their event. Good luck to both squads next weekend!
