The final weekend of OVA play for 2024 took place over the weekend, with 14U and 18U teams playing in the Challenge Cup – the second of four OVA events on the season.
On Saturday, Lakeside’s four 14U teams competed in Waterloo, Hamilton, Stratford and Oakville. Participating in Select Division, Mambele struggled to get things going in the morning and early afternoon but salvaged their day with a couple of wins to place 5th and remain in Select for the McGregor Cup in January.
In Hamilton, Nimcha split their morning pool play action but dropped their first round playoff match to the eventual winners of the Championship Division tournament in the quarter finals and ended the day in 7th place.
In Stratford, Kascara won their first match of the day but could not muster up any sort of consistency for the balance of their Championship event, placing 11th in their 12 team tournament.
Hosting in Oakville, Silaha split their morning matches but dropped their quarter final match in three sets to end their medal hopes for the day. The team placed 5th in their Trillium tournament.
Sunday was a day of 18U events. In Hamilton, Isihlangu participated in a Select Division event and split their morning matches. The team (comprised of 16/17U players) fought hard but ended the day in 7th place.
Hosting the second event of the weekend in Oakville, 17U Askari competed in a Championship tournament for the first time at 18U and although they played some solid volleyball, it was not enough on the day, placing 9th in the tournament.
Finally in Peterborough, 17U Takoba made a good run in the AM and to start the playoffs but fell short of the podium, placing 4th in their Trillium Green event.
