The final round of OVA Provincial Cup tournaments took place over the weekend, which saw 15UG teams take to the courts for their first official tournament of the season. Here is how LVC teams fared in their events:
15 Inkemba: Participating in Trillium White, the team swept their pool in the AM and set themselves up with a favourable matchup with Brant in the quarters. A closer-than-it-should-have-been match resulted in a win, followed by a two-set victory in the semis. In the gold medal match, the girls fought hard in set one, but ultimately fell in two straight to a well-organized Defensa team. Congrats to Inkemba for taking Silver!
14 Mambele: Playing up an age group, the team entered the day ranked 6th in their Trillium Green event in Niagara. The team’s skill level was on full display as the team walked through every opponent they faced in pool play and playoffs. A bit of resistance was felt in the gold medal match, but the Mambele girls didn’t buckle on their way to top honours on the day. Congratulations on the team’s Gold medal finish!
15U Cimpaba: Co-hosting a Trillium Green event in Oakville, the team dropped a couple of three set matches in pool play to set up a tough quarter final match to start the playoff rounds. Falling in two sets to Vaughan Legends, the team rebounded for the 5/7 match to secure a fifth play finish on the day.
15U Ikul: As the other Co-host of the same tournament, Ikul split their morning matches to finish second in pool play. In a tough quarter final against Phoenix Burn, the team dropped a tight first set and could not recover. In their 5/7 match vs. Toronto, the team persevered in a three-set thriller to clinch 5th place.
15U Shotel: Playing their first tournament of the season in Niagara, the team dropped a couple of close matches in pool play to end up facing Georgetown Impact in the pre-quarters. A tough three-set loss saw the team compete with one of the host teams, only to drop the final match of the day in two close, hard-fought sets.
