Post from Volleyball Canada (volleyball.ca) from October 2023:
Held in Tegucigalpa, Honduras from November 19 to 27, 2023, a team from Canada will attend the U17 (athletes born in 2008) NORCECA Championships. The U17 Girls Norceca Championships is a qualifying event for the U17 World Championships to be held in 2024. The 2024 FIVB U17 category allows for more opportunities for talented young volleyball players to participate in international events.
Athletes were invited based on their participation in the 2023 Canada Cup with Team Canada or Team Ontario. Due to the location, timing and age group, Volleyball Canada is working directly with Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) to ensure Canada is well represented at the event. As the FIVB looks to expand the age classes in the coming years, Volleyball Canada will continue to assess and delivery programming that is reflective of the Canadian development and athlete selection process to build success at the Senior national team level.
“This is an opportunity for athletes to experience international competition early in their pathway journey,” said Dawna Sales, Volleyball Canada Director of Athlete and Coach Pathways. “I am excited to work with coaches, Amy Wilson, John Nguyen, and Brett Hagarty, who are excellent role models and have invested in their coaching journey through the OVA provincial team system.”
“We are excited for the opportunity to support Volleyball Canada and to contribute to the development of athletes and coaches who will experience international volleyball while representing Canada,” commented LP Mainville, OVA Athlete Development Director. The team will train at the Pakmen training facility in Mississauga on November 18th prior to their departure.
